Oral Health and Social Inequality: Prevalence of Dental Caries in relation to Age, Gender and Socioeconomic Status - WHO Goal 2020

Oral Health and Social Inequalities are intrinsically interrelated. Aim: assess the association of dental caries in relation with socio-economic status, age and sex in population of Lucknow. Material & MethodAn epidemiological study was conducted in a dental teaching hospital of Lucknow. Oral examination was performed to record DMFT and DMFS scores. Data regarding age, sex, and socioeconomic status were collected through structured questionnaire and modified Kuppuswamy scale (2007). DMFT and DMFS scores were recorded and statistically analyzed. ResultAverage DMFT in age group > 25 years was 3.98 and in ≤ 25 years age was 2.09, for male group 3.2 and for female group 2.08. In lower socioeconomic status group average DMFT score was 4.0 and in upper group it was 1.53.ConclusionPrevalence of dental caries was more in lower socioeconomic group, high age group and males in population of Lucknow.
